Preparing the application form and accompanying documents

Please download the ISJP application (PDF, 64 kB), fill it in (English) and enclose the following documents:

  • Your curriculum vitae (incl. university studies, hobbies, volunteer activities)
  • Letter of recommendation by a professor
  • Copy of passport for visa application (validity minimum one year)
  • Letter of guarantee for sufficient financial support (e.g. scholarship)

Deadlines and Visa

March 31 for fall semester, October 31 for spring semester (exceptions are possible in special cases).

Application is to be sent to the Coordinator of the program. Candidates have to apply for visas at a Japanese embassy or consulate in their home countries. The proper visa category is “cultural visa” (bunka visa).

  • In Kyoto I learnt about the theoretical and historical aspects of the religious landscape of Japan. During the subsequent time of practical exposure on Sado Island, these facts came to real life, due to my encounters with Buddhist priests, Christian pastors, and believers of different religions.
